The Royal Mail’s Postcode Address File (PAF) comprises the complete list of postcodes and addresses in the British Isles.
We can use the PAF in a number of ways:
- If the postcode is valid and correct, we can enhance and tidy the rest of the address data – adding/amending the Post Town or County field, separating out Flat and House/Road details and Village descriptions
- Highlighting questionable business addresses if the Company name is different but listed as being the only occupant at a postcode (Major Postcode User)
- By assessing the rest of the address information using phonetic matching and logic-based reasoning, we can assign complete and correct full postcodes to the data
- Where postcodes in an area have been changed by Royal Mail, we can update to the current postcode
- Getting a correct and complete postal address means that the rest of the Data Enhancement procedures can be done efficiently – Deduplication, MPS, Goneaways, Bereavement Register, Business Suppression Register
