All people, whether Consumers, Small Businesses/Partnerships or Major Companies can now register with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) by contacting them on http://www.tpsonline.org.uk to request that their names are suppressed from Telemarketing campaigns.
It is unlawful to make unsolicited direct marketing calls to Individuals or Businesses who have indicated that they do not wish to receive such calls and therefore this must be carried out on all data that is going to be used for Telemarketing purposes.
This need not be specific marketing campaigns but can refer to a single telephone call that an individual makes, for example, a cold sales call.
You must therefore ensure that you screen any potential contacts who you might call against the TPS and Corporate TPS list.
You should also note that it is illegal to send SMS text messages to any recipient unless they have specifically indicated that they wish you to contact them (Opt-in).
